General Requirements
Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy, friendly to China, have no criminal record, and be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid regular foreign passport.
Applicants must possess a Master's degree awarded by an institution accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
Language Proficiency Requirements
English-taught Programs
Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English language proficiency certificates, Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency with the results of IELTS (6.0 orabove), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU's DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above), Essentials test (8 points orabove), or other equivalent English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English but have received their highest level of education taught in English are exempt from providing IELTS/TOEFL certificates and other proof of English proficiency, but must submit proof of the language of instruction.
Note: The exit and entry administration authority of the Chinese public security organ will determine whether the applicant has Chinese nationality in addition to foreign nationality based on the results of the nationality determination. If it is determined that the applicant holds Chinese nationality after application, admission, or enrollment, the application, admission, or study qualification will be annulled.

Program Description
1. Program Introduction
Editor Notes: The program pays great attention to the cultivation of students' professional knowledge and engineering ability.
- Materials Science to investigate the relationship between chemical composition- structure-processing and properties;
- Materials Engineering to shape the desired materials into parts or components with acceptable performance/cost ratio;
- Materials Physics and Chemistry to research the chemical methods for synthesizing new materials or physical properties of functional materials; materials design and computational materials science are also available in this field;
- Materials Packaging to investigate the packaging design, manufacture and mechanical test of industrial products.
- The four-year Ph.D’s program will be fully taught in English and provide several different research directions.
- Year One courses provide the fundamental knowledge of materials science and engineering.
- Year two and three is for project research and paper writing.
- Year four is for ending project and thesis writing.
- Core courses provide an essential knowledge of materials science and engineering, as well as recent progress in both new materials and new technologies.
- The optional courses are of two modules based on the research direction, but students are encouraged to select inter-module courses.
- Students will obtain a Ph.D Degree of Engineering, recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
2. Program Structure

Thesis Requirements In the fourth year, the students must finish their Ph.D thesis, which is no less than 40,000 words in total, and defend it in the eighth term (in mid-May). The students must work closely with their advisor to define a focused topic and conduct the research. Students should also be bold and actively engaged in research activities, and publish at least 2 papers in academic journals cited by SCI. Graduation Requirements Before graduate students can be officially admitted to degree candidacy, they must fulfill at least one of the following requirements: a. publish 2 academic paper in relevant journals or academic conferences cited by SCI b. participate in and complete an engineering project and submit a summary report c. complete a phase of a development project and submit a summary report 3. *2. Physical examination record for foreigner
The physical examinations must be fully filled in. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, and the official stamp of the hospital, and a stamped photograph will not be considered. Ensure your physical examination remains valid during your application time as the result is valid for only 6 months.

(1) Residents of Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying as international students should submit:
(a) A certificate of annulment of Chinese citizenship.
(b) A certificate of annulment of Chinese Household Registration.
(c) A certificate to prove foreign nationality.
(2) A person who has acquired a foreign nationality at birth, both of whose parents are Chinese citizens and have settled abroad or either of whose parents is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, and is applying as an international student should submit the following materials:
(a) A certificate to prove that the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth.
(b) A certificate of permanent residence of the applicant’s parents (Chinese citizens) in a foreign country before the applicant’s birth, and the passport biographic page or I.D. card of the applicant’s parents (Chinese citizens).*4. Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor and its supporting documents.
(1) Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor, which should be filled in in Chinese or English;

(2) Bank Statement certifying that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover his or her tuition, accommodation, living expenses and international travels during his or her study in China;
(3) The scanned copies of the passport biographic page or I.D. card of the applicant’s financial guarantor (only the applicant himself/herself or his/her direct family can act as a financial guarantor).*5. English proficiency certificate
*6. The biographic page of the applicant’s passport (personal ordinary passport must be valid until at least October 31st, 2023).

A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant
*8. Transcripts of all courses taken when pursuing a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (the official seal of the school must be affixed).
Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
*9. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates or pre-graduation certification.
If the applicant has not received the Master’s degree yet, a pre-graduation certification should be presented to affirm the applicant will graduate soon (the official seal of the school must be affixed).
Note: Applicants who apply using a pre-graduation certification must state their expected graduation time and must obtain a graduation certificate before enrolling in September 2023.*10. Two recommendation letters from a professor(s) or associate professor(s) related to the applied major (or equivalent professionals with relevant academic title).
Referrer’s name (signature), title, institution, phone number and email address are required on the recommendation letters.
*11. A letter of motivation in Chinese or English.
The motivation letter should be written in accordance with the requirements of the template. Applicants applying for Chinese-taught programs should write in Chinese, and applicants applying for English-taught programs should write in English.

*13. Certificate of No Criminal Conviction
Applicants must submit the certificate of No Criminal Record within the valid period issued by the local Public Security Bureau. Generally, it should be valid within 6 months before the date of submitting the application.
Tips:
For applicants who are in China: If you are an employee, you still need to provide employment separation certificate and your current residence permit. If you are a student, you need to provide transfer certificate, leaving certificate, certificate of attendance rate issued by previous school and your current residence permit. - Video
