1. Program Introduction

Editor Notes: This program is to train highly qualified physicians and surgeons through lecturing, laboratory teaching and supervised clinical practice.

• One of the earliest universities that admit international students for study toward M.B.B.S in clinical medicine in China.
• The training program was launched in 2002 at SUSOM.
• During the first three years, students mainly study basic knowledge of humanity, culture, and medicine.
• Clinical courses are given by clinicians and training enhanced in affiliated teaching hospitals in the following two years and the last year is for a clinical rotation in different departments.
• MBBS graduated shall not only achieve the requirement as a bachelor of medical knowledge, adept clinical skill, and good occupational qualities but also adapt the requirements of source of countries and international society.

6. Internship:

Editor Notes: SDU highly recommends international students to do an internship in China and would help students choose one from the affiliated hospitals.

• The internship is arranged in the final year and students can choose to do the internship/training in China, their home country or any other country.
• There are no requirements on the HSK level before the internship, but students have to pass the Chinese Language Proficiency Test held by the university.
• The tuition fee for internship in China is RMB 41,000 and students will live in the university for the affiliated hospitals are not far away.
• The School hosts 8 affiliated hospitals, all of which are large comprehensive hospitals of top level in China. They have a total of 7,682 beds.
• If students want to do an internship in another country, SDU needs to do a qualification evaluation on the hospital which students choose and there’s no need to pay for the tuition fee.
• Students also need to take the final examination on Theory Test and Clinical Evaluation in SDU before graduation.

7. Diploma Awarded

Editor Notes: MBBS Degree: upon graduation, students need to pass the HSK 3 (New HSK 4) to get the diploma.

• International medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by the SDU. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).
• After obtaining the MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first.

1.Age: 18- 35 years old(applicants below 18-year-old shall submit some activities)

2.Be in good health. Applicants shall provide qualified Certificate of Physical Examination valid in 6 months and No Criminal Certificate.

3.Applicants should obtain a high school diploma or above and English certificates.

4.Important note: China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) is a standardized test designed for international students who plan to pursue undergraduate degrees in China. From 2026, CSCA is required. For MBBS program, Math and Chemistry test are required.

5.English-taught Programs
Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency with the results of IELTS(6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above,SDU's DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above), Essentials test (8 points or above), orother equivalent English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English but have received their highest level of education taught in English are exempt from providing IELTS/TOEFL certificates and other proof of English proficiency, but must submit proof of the language of instruction.
Applicants must meet the criteria specified in the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students to China's Higher Education Institutions(Letter No. 12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education).
Note: The exit and entry administration authority of the Chinese public security organ will determine whether the applicant has Chinese nationality in addition to foreign nationality based on the results of the nationality determination. If it is determined that the applicant holds Chinese nationality after application, admission, or enrollment, the application, admission, or study qualification will be annulled.
