(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health and possess a valid foreign passport;
(2) Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree to a Bachelor’s degree in China.
2. Language Proficiency Requirements
English-taught Programs
(1) Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English language certification.
(2) Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of the IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU’s DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above) and Essentials test (8 points or above), or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency.
(3) Applicants whose native language is not English and who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is English, do not need to provide certificates of English proficiency such as IELTS/TOEFL scores but must submit a letter of proof.

Program Description
1. Program Introduction
Editor Notes: The program pays great attention to the cultivation of students’ professional knowledge and engineering ability.
- Materials Science (metallic, ceramic and polymer materials) to investigate the relationship between chemical composition- structure-processing and properties;
- Materials Engineering (casting, plastic forming and welding technologies) to shape the desired materials into parts or components with acceptable performance/cost ratio;
- Materials Physics and Chemistry to research the chemical methods for synthesizing new materials or physical properties of functional materials; materials design and computational materials science are also available in this field;
- Materials Packaging to investigate the packaging design, manufacture and mechanical test of industrial products. This is an inter-disciplinary research field combining art design, materials processing and computer simulation.
- Year One courses provide the fundamental knowledge of materials science and engineering.
- Year Two is for project research and paper writing.
- Year Three is for ending project and thesis writing.

Master’s Thesis In the third year, students should finish their master’s thesis, which is no less than 20,000 words in total, and defend it in the fourth term (in mid-May). The students should work closely with their advisor to define a focused topic and conduct the research. Students should also be bold and actively engaged in research activities, and strive to publish papers in academic journals. Graduation Requirements Before graduate students can be officially admitted to degree candidacy, they must fulfill at least one of the following requirements: a. publish an academic paper in relevant journals or academic conferences b. participate in and complete an engineering project and submit a summary report c. complete a phase of a development project and submit a summary report 3. The subject of materials science is one of the national key subjects.
- The subjects of materials science and materials processing engineering have the specially invited professor station of "Cheung Kong Scholars Programme" set up by Ministry of Education.
- The subjects can be divided into two specialties: materials science and engineering and packaging engineering.

(2) A person who has acquired a foreign nationality at birth, both of whose parents are Chinese citizens and have settled abroad or either of whose parents is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, and is applying as an international student should submit the following materials:
(a) A certificate to prove that the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth.
(b) A certificate of permanent residence of the applicant’s parents (Chinese citizens) in a foreign country before the applicant’s birth, and the passport biographic page or I.D. card of the applicant’s parents (Chinese citizens).*3. Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
The physical examinations must be fully filled in. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, and the official stamp of the hospital, and a stamped photograph will not be considered. Ensure your physical examination remains valid during your application time as the result is valid for only 6 months.

The motivation letter should be written in accordance with the requirements of the template. Applicants applying for Chinese-taught programs should write in Chinese, and applicants applying for English-taught programs should write in English.

*13. Certificate of No Criminal Conviction
Applicants must submit the certificate of No Criminal Record within the valid period issued by the local Public Security Bureau. Generally, it should be valid within 6 months before the date of submitting the application.

For applicants who are in China: If you are an employee, you still need to provide employment separation certificate and your current residence permit. If you are a student, you need to provide transfer certificate, leaving certificate, certificate of attendance rate issued by previous school and your current residence permit. - How to Apply
